This posture resembles the splits performed by gymnasts and dancers.

Dedicated to Hanuman the monkey god, son of Vayu the wind God. Known for his amazing strength and total devotion to Lord Ram. This asana actually depicts his great leaps across the himalayas to save Lakshman (Rama’s brother) who nearly died in battle against the Demon King Ravana.

This posture deeply stretches the inner and outer thighs, hamstrings and hip flexors, when performed properly it also becomes a back bend.

Always warm up before practicing any yoga posture.

From Downward dog lunge the right leg forward, bring both hands to the floor either side of the leg. Make sure the left knee is directed towards the floor. Hips should be square, try to avoid twisting, the left foot should be in line with the left hip. Only deepen from the right leg by moving the heel forward keeping the leg straight as well as the back . As you straighten the back keep the chest pointing forward straight ahead. As you further you can bring your hand together in prayer position  and further by raising the hands up above the head. Hold for as long as you can, repeat to the other side.
