Dedicated to Great Lord Shiva who is also known as Nataraj meaning the Cosmic Dancer. He is one aspect of the formidable trinity Brahma (creator), Vishnu (maintainer) and Shiva (destructor). An Essential part of the cycle of life. It is said that when Nataraj’s cosmic dance begins it brings blessings in the form of destruction for rebirth.
A grounding and heart opening asana, develops balance and focus, strengthens the legs and spine. Deeply stretches the hips, shoulders, chest and the back.
Always warm up before practicing any yoga posture.
Start off standing tall in Tadasana, starting off with the right side, bend the right knee toward your buttocks and hold on to your ankle with your right hand, left arm raised keeping the shoulders relaxed and chest straight ahead. Shift the weight forward, hips looking straight ahead, as you lean more forward raise the right leg behind. Hold for as long as you can, repeat to the other side.
Advanced
Same as before, but hold onto the foot instead of the ankle, raise the leg behind, bring the left arm up and over catching hold of the right foot, so both hands are holding onto the right foot. Again hold for as long as possible then repeat to the other side.
