Yoga is often a common exercise for pregnant women as it helps the body to deal with stress and promotes breathing and relaxation techniques suitable for a healthy birth.
If you are pregnant your practice needn’t be changed drastically, you can carry on with just a few avoidances and precautions.
Of course variations will apply as you progress and how you have practiced yoga in the past. Also medical issues, past injuries and past pregnancies will affect your practice.
For this reason I would only recommend participating in a yoga class with a fully qualified instructor who is totally familiar with this form of yoga.
You should not start yoga in the first trimester of pregnancy, you can only practice at this time if you are familiar with yoga already.
Your body will guide you in how far to advance in a posture or whether to take restorative yoga but be wary that your mind doesn’t cause set backs as many people think if they are pregnant they cannot practice an intense yoga class, this isn’t necessarily the case.
If you are interested in pregnancy yoga please contact me. I do not run open classes for pregnancy yoga as everyone is so different during pregnancy, which is why I only recommend personal tuition if you are pregnant.
5 months into pregnancy and my yoga is still the same for me as it was before with just a few restrictions.
